PCL Construction has broken ground on the new cardiac life support services redevelopment project for the University of Ottawa’s Heart Institute.
The construction will add five floors of clinical and in-patient services, expand support services such as biomedical engineering and data services, as well as add approximately 146,000 sq. ft. of space. Redevelopment work at the existing facility will include renovation of about 60,000 sq. ft., provide support services for the heart catheterization/electrophysiology suite, surgical suite and the cardiac intensive care unit, and relocate the cardiac imaging suite, according to the Infrastructure Ontario’s website.
“The project will expand the facility to accommodate the changing needs of the area resulting from shifting demographics and technological advancements, and will improve access to high quality specialized cardiac services for residents in the Champlain Local Health Integration Network region,” according to the website.
PCL Construction said that more than 150 workers are expected to be on-site at the peak of construction.
