Pembroke MDF Inc. will reopen its operations by retrofitting its Pembroke-based facility with the help of Ontario’s Industrial Electricity Incentive (IEI) program.

The reopening of the plan will create 140 jobs.

The IEI program allows Ontario to better manage its electricity system by encouraging industrial companies to maximize the use of available electricity supply. The program spurs industrial growth and production by offering a lower price for additional electricity they use, according to a statement.

More than 350 jobs in Ontario’s mining, steel and pulp and paper sectors are expected to result from projects recently selected for participation in the IEI program. The program was introduced in 2012 to improve load management, foster job creation, and better utilize Ontario’s strong supply of electricity.
