Ottawa’s Planning Committee has approved of a six-storey 187-unit apartment building and a new park at 190 Richmond Rd. Located near Westboro Transit Station, the area currently consists of a Real Canadian Superstore and two parking lots.

The committee approved developments in largely undeveloped areas in Leitrim and Orléans South. Leitrim Rd. and Bank St. could soon be home to new houses, an apartment building and a park, and Salt Spring Valley Trails to 41 new townhouses.

The committee also approved designating Macdonald Gardens Park under the Ontario Heritage Act. Designed by landscape architect Frederick Todd, this Lowertown landmark has a tree-lined pathway, large open spaces and a hilltop gazebo with a view of Parliament Hill.

Reports for these committee-approved items will go to city council on June 14.

The committee also received an update on vacant residential land development, which has increased compared to recent annual averages. The report adds that the city has sufficient land to meet residential growth until 2037.
