Ottawa renovator Mike Martin has died from brain cancer, at age 55.

Martin built a contracting business over three decades, and took leadership roles in the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association’s (GOHBA) renovation council – advocating for the industry and for ethical business practices and recognition. He also represented the industry at the provincial and national levels.

Among other initiatives, Martin encouraged the launch of Ottawa Renovates magazine, which continues publishing twice a year after more than 12 years. He also was actively involved in minor hockey as a coach.

Martin was diagnosed with CNS Brain Lymphoma about four years ago, and fought the cancer until his death on April 26.

Martin is survived by his wife Suzanne, a residential designer, as well as his parents, Michael S. Martin and Patricia Martin, his son Jamie, and sister Karen (Lloyd).

Contributions in place of flowers are invited to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, Legacy Living, at https://www.braintumour.ca/michael-martin.
