The 2025 Ottawa Wood Solutions Conference will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. The conference, running from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, will focus on the latest advancements and trends in wood construction, including the new 18-storey code provisions for mass timber.

Now in its 20th year, the event has become a leading platform for professionals in design and construction to learn about sustainable wood building practices. The conference will feature a range of presentations, from technical insights to case studies, suitable for both newcomers and experienced professionals. Attendees can connect, collaborate, and expand their wood-related professional networks.

This year’s program highlights include a presentation by Christophe Ouhayoun of KOZ Architects, focusing on the innovative design and construction of the Paris Olympics Athletes’ Village. Ouhayoun will also discuss the ongoing conversion of these structures into permanent housing, showcasing the adaptability and sustainability of mass timber construction.

Attendees will also hear from Donald Schmitt of Diamond Schmitt Architects, who will present on the revitalization of the National Arts Centre. Schmitt will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the project’s timber structure and prefabrication process.

Other technical presentations will cover topics such as sound and vibration management in mass timber buildings, increasing Canadian capacity for industrialized wood construction, and the value of conventional wood frame construction in small communities, particularly in Indigenous housing projects.

Early bird registration for the conference is available until the end of December for $99+HST. Registration will be $149 +HST in January. Discounted passes are available for post-secondary educators and students in AEC+D programs.
