The City of Ottawa has launched the next phase of the Stage 2 LRT project, focusing on rebuilding and reinstating Byron Linear Park and reconfiguring Richmond Road according to “complete streets” guidelines. This construction phase started July 20 and is expected to be completed by 2027.

Construction will continue on weekends and overnight hours.

The project, part of the Stage 2 LRT Byron Linear Park and Richmond Road revitalization, is associated with the O-Train Stage 2 West extension. It aims to modernize the area with new pedestrian and cycling pathways, green spaces, benches, and other amenities, transforming it into a vibrant community hub.

Also, aging underground utilities such as water and sewer mains will be replaced, the LRT tunnel will receive its final cover, and new street lighting, traffic signals, and signage will be installed. Tree planting and landscaping will also be part of the reconfiguration of Richmond Road to improve its alignment. All improvements will comply with the latest AODA standards, enhancing connectivity and safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

Structural work on the tunnel under Byron Linear Park is nearing completion, with the contractor now backfilling the tunnel and constructing the required track and rail systems inside. The new light rail transit stations at Sherbourne and New Orchard are progressing well, with work advancing above ground level.
