The General Contractors Association of Ottawa (GCAO) has awarded its 2024 Integrity and Ethics Award to Jerzy Jurewicz, a senior project architect and vice-president at Edward J. Cuhaci and Associates Architects.

A crowd of contractors, suppliers and association leaders gathered at the Rideau Club May 29 at the association’s annual cocktail party to network and see the awards presentation.

Jurewicz received the “meritorious award honouring consistently high standards of integrity and ethics in the construction industry,” capping his accomplishments since he joined the firm in 1990.

He has been involved in the design and construction of several high-projects including Algonquin College’s Centre for Construction Excellence.

In his acceptance speech, Jurewicz described his early years – working as in the masonry trade in Poland before acquiring his Master of Architecture and Urban Design degree at the Technical University of Warsaw.

“I love the design and construction process, where architectural vision is being tested and brought to life,” he said.

“Our collective team efforts including owners, architects, engineers and constructors, has resulted in such incredible results, and it is a great achievement of each individual team member.”

“I see this (award) as a celebration of everyone’s contribution,” he said.

Jurewicz made special mention of his wife, Zofia, who is also an architect and is president of the Cuhaci practice.
