The City of Kingston is preparing for a significant reconstruction of Princess Street in Williamsville, spanning Division to Albert Street, along with Garrett Street, scheduled for 2026. The project will involve extensive underground and above-ground infrastructure upgrades and streetscape improvements, creating opportunities for contractors and trades.

Ahead of the work, the City will host two drop-in information sessions this fall at the Memorial Centre (southeast hallway, near Culligan Water Park) from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The first session is September 25 and the second November 20. Residents unable to attend can access project updates through Get Involved Kingston.

“This reconstruction supports the City’s growth while renewing critical infrastructure,” said Melanie Knowles, Project Manager with Engineering Services. “Once complete, this corridor will be safer, more accessible, and better connected for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users.”

The project is driven by the need to separate combined sanitary and stormwater sewers, replace aging watermains, and upgrade Kingston Hydro infrastructure. Since excavation is required, elements of the Williamsville Main Street Transportation Plan and streetscape improvements will be included.

Construction highlights include:

  • Installation of new cycle tracks along Princess Street
  • Accessibility upgrades at crossings
  • Transit stop enhancements
  • Sewer separation and sanitary service replacement
  • New watermain installation
  • Upgrades to Kingston Hydro infrastructure
  • Sidewalk and curb reconstruction
  • Road resurfacing
  • Side street parking adjustments
  • New street trees, benches, and planters
  • Construction of the Frontenac Street Parkette

Construction updates will be posted on the project homepage.
