University of Ottawa to build new $83M, six-storeylearning centre

The University of Ottawa will construct a new learning centre in the heart of its downtown campus.

The new six-storey learning centre will will feature 26 classrooms as well as more than 800 around-the-clock study and work spaces. It will create a convivial gathering place for students.

The new centre, to be located just a few steps from the future uOttawa light rail stop, will feature a food court with seating for 350 and greatly increase the space on the main campus devoted to students.

The university plans to dedicate four classrooms in the learning centre to hybrid courses. These classrooms will the boast state-of-the-art equipment that is critical for the modern teaching practices involved in blended learning.

The construction and financing of the learning centre was approved by the university’s board of governors. The financing is comprised of government funding and funds from the university. The project is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to improve the overall experience of its students.

Construction will begin this coming summer, with the centre expected to open in 2017.
