Westboro Flooring and Decor Inc. celebrated its fiftieth anniversary with an evening of food and music on Nov. 28.
Invited guests had the opportunity to see how much the business has achieved since its birth in 1962.
In the early years, founder Morris Kimmel focused solely on the builder-developer market. Son Steven joined the business in 1974. Then, the family-owned business employed five people. Today, it has 62 employees.
In recent years the business has diversified and now also serves commercial clients and consumers directly, offering everything from carpeting to hardwood and other hard surfaces as well as window coverings.
The business has a solid and long-serving management team (many of who have been with the company 20 years or more), with dedicated employees, internal business systems and processes to create a seamless client experience.
Westboro has adapted to environmental trends and ensures its carpets and materials are properly recycled. “Old products – carpet and underpads – are turned into plastics for new carpet, plastic auto parts and other things,” Kimmel says.
“We partner with the top suppliers and manufacturers in the industry to ensure we provide the best value and service to our clients,” Kimmel says in a company brochure. “I am proud of our reputation in the Ottawa community as a company that develops and maintains long-term customer relationships.”
“Westboro also supports many local institutions such as CHEO, the Ottawa Heart Institute and the Ottawa Hospital to name a few. “Our family is proud to ‘give back’ to the community that has supported us for 50 years,” Kimmel said.
