The City of Kingston has announced a $40 million investment in road repairs and upgrades for 2025, with numerous projects set to begin this spring and continue throughout the year. These initiatives will address everything from routine maintenance to large-scale road reconstruction across the city.

A key focus of this year’s plan includes ongoing pothole repairs, with over 3,200 potholes already fixed in 2025. Crews will continue working on these repairs, starting with temporary cold patches in the winter and early spring, followed by more permanent asphalt repairs as the weather improves in late spring.

In addition to pothole repairs, crack sealing and asphalt treatments will be used to proactively maintain existing roads. These measures are designed to prevent water from damaging the road base, thus extending the lifespan of the asphalt and reducing future repair needs. Specific locations for crack sealing will be determined following assessments conducted in the spring.

The city will also address localized repairs and upgrades to existing roads, including surface treatments and asphalt replacement. These upgrades, scheduled to begin in late spring, aim to improve road quality, enhance safety, and extend the life of the infrastructure.

Larger-scale projects will focus on the reconstruction of roadways, intersections, and crossings to improve connectivity and safety for all users. These projects will incorporate new pedestrian, cycling, and transit facilities, aligning with the city’s long-term growth plans.

A major component of this effort will be full road reconstruction, which involves removing and replacing the road base, asphalt, and upgrading underground utilities such as water, sewer, and storm systems. These projects aim to not only rebuild roads but also enhance accessibility for all modes of transportation.
