The Ontario government has awarded R.W. Tomlinson Limited the contract to build a new roundabout at the intersection of Highway 15 and County Road 42 in the Township of Rideau Lakes. The project is part of a broader $30‑billion provincial plan to expand and modernize highway infrastructure across Ontario.

Work will include reconstruction of existing pavement, modifications to intersection entrances, improved drainage, and new lighting and landscaping. Officials say the project is expected to enhance road safety and support local construction jobs, providing an economic boost amid ongoing trade pressures from U.S. tariffs.

“Highway 15 and County Road 42 are vital transportation links for families and businesses in Rideau Lakes,” said Steve Clark, MPP for Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes. “Improving the safe movement of people and goods along this corridor protects our community and supports future economic growth.”

Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria added, “Our government is investing $30 billion to build the highway infrastructure we need to get drivers where they need to go on time and safely. The new roundabout at Highway 15 and County Road 42 will improve road safety as we continue our work to expand highway infrastructure across the province.”

Ontario’s roads have consistently ranked among the safest in North America, with some of the lowest fatality rates per 10,000 licensed drivers. The province plans to spend nearly $30 billion over the next decade on highways, roads, and bridges, including ongoing projects such as the replacement of the Highway 401 Choate Road Overpass and the Ganaraska River Bridge near Port Hope, which began construction in May 2025.
