Infrastructure Ontario and Providence Care have named the team to build the new Providence Care Hospital in Kingston to open in 2016.

Parkin Architects, EllisDon and Fengate Capital Management will design, develop and build the 270-bed hospital.

The state-of-the-art hospital will be designed to achieve LEED Silver certification and will combine services and programs from Providence Care’s St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital and the Mental Health Services site. Single patient rooms, designed to meet currents standards for infection control, will be set alongside adjacent treatment and therapy spaces.

The hospital will also include inpatient and outpatient clinics, teaching, learning and research facilities.

The 30-acre site acquired for the hospital provides opportunities to view water and nature and early designs suggest the four-storey structure will take advantage of both.

Providence Care is southeastern Ontario’s leading provider of specialized mental health care, physical medicine and rehabilitation, specialized geriatric services, complex continuing care, palliative care and long-term care.

The cost for the project has not yet been set.
