Architect Sonia Zouari became the 2015/17 Construction Specifications Canada (CSC) Ottawa chapter chair at the annual chapter meeting on May 13.

She also becomes the third woman to be a chair of a local CSC chapter in the organization’s history.

Zouari, licensed in both Ontario and Quebec, says: “I am a passionate architect, community-oriented and a ‘mompreneur’; with strong family values, a determination to honour my career and to always aim for excellence… I thrive for innovative technologies, quality, rigorous building science and believe in adaptable spaces that empower people to use them . . .” she said.

Zouari has diversified experience through international travel and training (including Africa, Europe and North America), and says her knowledge encompasses document preparation, specification writing, project management, and field review for a wide variety of heritage buildings, LEED buildings and potential Passive House projects.
“As a Passive House Designer, Green Globes professional and with LEED accreditation, I am thrilled to contribute efficiently in shaping a sustainable and energy-efficient future of our architectural landscape providing drastic reduction
in energy consumption through the Passive House Planning Package energy modeling, meticulous thermal bridge free detailing and proper material selection,” she said.

She co-ordinated two CSC Ottawa events where Austrian-based Passive House leader Gunter Lang appeared as a speaker, and recently attended the 19th International Passive House conference in Leipzig Germany.

“As a CCCA specializing in managing construction contracts, I work with clients, consultants, building officials and contractors to provide effective solutions while ensuring accuracy, proper coordination, collaboration, compliance with applicable codes and standards and attention to detail,” she said.

Outgoing CSC chapter chair Mark Buckshon, Ottawa Construction News publisher and president of the Construction News and Report Group of Companies, will remain on the chapter executive as past-chair.

“There are great opportunities to get involved and contribute to the industry and build relationships through membership and participation in the CSC chapter,” Buckshon said. “If you want broaden your horizons, the chapter executive also welcomes new members.”
