Building permit activity usually declines in December, but the year over year decline is noticeable this year, even as multi-unit residential projects continue to dominate the City of Ottawa data.

There were $107,915,874 in permits issued, a significant decline from the October permits of $246,910,542 million and even more from November 2015’s $158.7 million total.

While the largest single permit is for a $12,688,198 Brigil Construction project to build a four-storey apartment building at 124 Battersea Cr. in Kanata, the largest overall grouping relates to a series of 10 three-storey block back-to-back rowhouse dwellings on Spicebush Pl. and Twinflower Way in Barrhaven. Each building has a permit value of $1,829,944 for a total of $18,299,440 in value.

Other significant buildings include:

1140 Wellington St. W.- $3,859,020 – Doran Residential Contractors Ltd.

This “foundation only” permit is to construct a 13-storey mixed-use building with two levels of underground parking.

80 Landy St. – $2.584.847 – Claridge Homes (South Beechwood)

The “foundation only” permit is to construct a nine-unit residential/care building with one level of underground parking in Vanier.
