The National Capital Commission (NCC) has extended the deadline for proponents to submit innovative proposals for the development of LeBreton Flats, which is deemed to be the largest and most significant urban site in Canada’s Capital.

Proponents are invited to imagine a world-class destination and an inspirational place that will demonstrate design excellence and innovation.

The deadline for the request for qualifications has been extended from December 5, 2014, to January 7, 2015.

However, the NCC said, the overall calendar of the redevelopment of LeBreton Flats will not be affected.

The site for redevelopment is 9.3 hectares. The NCC is also seeking a development planning outlook on a larger area referred to as option lands, consisting of an additional 12.3 hectares. The commission is using a two-stage process to select a successful proponent.

First stage consists of the present request for qualifications to qualify a short list of proponents who have extensive relevant development experience, design expertise, and the financial capacity to undertake and deliver the project.

The shortlisted qualified proponents would then be invited to participate in second stage of the solicitation process, consisting of the request for proposals, to submit a more detailed design and a financial proposal.
