Michael Nicolini takes office as new GCAO president

            The General Contractors Association of Ottawa (GCAO)‘s new executive took office at the association’s annual general meeting on Jan. 17.

            Four new directors filled four vacancies by acclamation.  The incoming directors are Ruiter Construction president Glenn St. Germain, EllisDon area manager Steve Smith, FiA Group president David Pimentel and Gary Codogno, construction manager at PCS General Contractors.

            Michael Nicolini, president of Nicolini Construction, is the association’s new president, replacing Spencer Hagan, district risk manager for PCL Constructors Canada.  Other directors include GCAO first vice-president Josh Laginski from Frecon Construction Ltd., TOFCON Construction Inc. executive vice-president Jim Tsarouhas and Andrew Splinter of Dolyn Developments.

            In his acceptance speech, Nicolini said the GCAO provides excellent support and service to its members.  “Having worked on many different portfolios in this association as well as meeting with the various owners and consultants in our industry, the value and results that this association achieves for its members are well worth the efforts,” he said.

            Treasurer Jim Tsarouhas reported the association achieved a $12,360 surplus in 2012, bringing the membership equity to $59,020.

            The association has 66 members, an increase of three from 2011.  New members include: Greatr Ottawa Construction, Harik General Contracting, Robert J. Bourgon and Associates Ltd., the FiA Group and Unified General Contractors.  Daoust Construction and Shabnam Construction did not renew their memberships.
