Construction started on the Ottawa Police Memorial Cemetery at the Beechwood Cemetery.
The four phase project will complete the Police Memorial Cemetery.
In phase one, a front flower bed and a rock wall recognizing the five police services that form the present day Ottawa Police Service will be constructed.
In 2009, the Ottawa Police was provided a plot of land located beside the RCMP cemetery at the Beechwood Cemetery for the purpose of building a Memorial Cemetery. This enables Ottawa Police members to be honored for their service to their community and their commitment to policing.
The Ottawa Police Service joined forces with the Beechwood Cemetery Foundation to develop a site plan and raise funds for the project. To date, $75,000 has been raised.
