The provincial government has announced it will be funding two new schools and three school improvement projects in the Ottawa region.

The new projects, which are the result of a $41 million local investment from the Ontario government in the Ottawa Catholic District School Board and the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, include:

  • Marchwood Lakeside Elementary School in Kanata — A new 507 pupil place elementary school for Kindergarten to Grade 6 students, including two new licensed child care rooms and 39 new child care spaces.
  • Leitrim Elementary School in Leitrim — A new 674 pupil place elementary school for Kindergarten to Grade 8 students, including two new licensed child care rooms and 39 new child care spaces.
  • West Carleton Secondary School in Dunrobin — A 252 pupil place addition that will result in the replacement of temporary classrooms with a permanent addition at West Carleton Secondary School.
  • St. Francis Xavier in Gloucester — A 436 pupil place addition in Gloucester that will result in the replacement of temporary classrooms with a permanent addition at St. Francis Xavier.
  • Holy Family School in Ottawa — An extensive refurbishment to the existing school building.

The investment will provide improved facilities and enhanced learning opportunities for thousands of students in the Ottawa area, a government news release said. “Families will also benefit from increased access to safe, high-quality licensed child care with four new child care rooms, resulting in 78 new licensed spaces for toddlers and pre-schoolers.”

“Ontario is providing school boards across the province with more than $11 billion over 10 years to help build new schools in areas of high growth, improve the condition of existing schools and invest in projects to reduce surplus space through school consolidations,” the announcement said.
