Merkley Supply Ltd. president Robert Merkley will receive the 2014 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ (AFP) Ottawa chapter.

The Ottawa Hospital Foundation nominated Merkley for the recognition, reflecting his support as “an instrumental volunteer leader and campaign cabinet member for The Ottawa Hospital for two of their most recent fundraising initiatives and the engine behind Ride The Rideau, their signature cancer fundraising event,” the AFP citation observed.

“Over the years, Robert has been actively involved with the Joan of Arc Academy, The Hospice at May Court, and CHEO where he was co-chair of the major gifts committee of their capital campaign.

“Robert also lent his financial support and became a member of the construction team for Roger’s House, securing gifts in-kind supporting the construction of the palliative care facility for children.  He was also a leadership donor and an instrumental member of the Algonquin College Centre for Construction Excellence fundraising committee which raised millions.”

AFP Ottawa will honour Merkley at the association’s twentieth annual Philanthropy Awards on Wed., Nov. 12 at the Ottawa Convention Centre.

“With an expected audience of at least 400, the guest list will include some of our communities’ top corporate executives, community leaders, philanthropists, volunteers, board members, donors, and fundraising professionals,” AFP says.
