ASHRE’s Ottawa valley chapter is preparing for its fall activities and programs, following its successful sixtieth anniversary program last year.
The association, which rarely refers to itself by its full name, The American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, provides a venue for mechanical engineers, consultants and related suppliers and service businesses to share insights, ideas and social activities.
Chapter president Roderic Potter says in the chapter’s newsletter that this year regular meetings will be at Algonquin College’s Restaurant International. The meetings are scheduled for the third Tuesday each month.
However, September’s kick-off meeting will be at the Mill St. Brew Pub on Sept.19. Guy Newsham of NRC is tentatively scheduled to “present his excellent speech relating the ‘Green Building Experience,’” Potter says. “Basically the speech is the result of some years of comparison between similar commercial buildings, where some are ‘Green’ and the others are ‘Not’ so to speak. Learning the results is entertaining for the audience.”
Meanwhile, the chapter’s special events committee co-chair Andrew Douma thanked everyone who participated in and supported the chapter’s summer golf tournament.
“Congratulations to this year’s event winner Team Mastron represented by Stan Millross, Peter Baird, Jim Siciliano and Richard Goldstein,” he wrote. “I would especially like to thank the many volunteers who generously gave their time to this event. Stan Millross, Cathy Godin, Posy Healey, Stephen Lynch, Don Weekes, Pat Albert and Aaron Dobson among others all offered great support.”
Douma said the sold-out tournament raised almost $4,500 for ASHRAE research and for the Ottawa Valley Chapter. “These monies will be staying in Canada and will be going towards further research and development of standards and guidelines that will benefit our industry,” Douma wrote.
